1.5 million Swarovski crystals dazzle up the carbon structure at Design Miami

This year, visitors to this exhibition in the city's Design District, will be greeted with a unique display at the very entrance. American architect, Greg Lynn has designed an installation out of carbon and 1.5 million crystals for the ongoing Swarovski Crystal Palace project that will be displayed at the entrance at Design Miami. The seven meter high structure has been built by Lynn using carbon-compressing technologies from the sailing and ship-building industries. More than a hundred thousand meters of carbon and aramid fibers give the structure its main colors (black, gold and crimson), while the 1.5 million crystals, set in between the fibers, add sparkle in aquamarine, pink, red, peach and blue.

According to Porsche Centrum Gelderland the pastry chef in charge used around 175 kilos (about 386 pounds) of milk chocolate for the body along with a few kilos of white chocolate for the lights and trim. The car will be on display till the year end. To make sure the chocolate doesn’t melt, the temperature of the showroom will be maintained and kept under 27 degree Celsius.

46-metre Soroya luxury yacht to debut at 2010 Monaco Yacht show

But one yacht preparing to make its debut at the event is the 46-metre Soroya, which is currently under construction at Gentech Yachts’ Antalya, Turkey shipyard. Italy’s Meccano Engineering is responsible for the yacht’s naval architecture while Jure Bukavec of UNIELLé yacht design did the interiors. The luxury craft will feature both a pop-up helipad and a swimming pad that unfolds to double in size. The Soroya achieves a maximum speed of speed of 16 knots and a cruising speed of 10 knots with a range of 5,040 nautical miles at cruising speed.

Sotheby's Magnificent Jewels auction sets two world records

That is exactly what happened at the sale that was held on Tuesday at the Hotel Beau Rivage in Geneva. In fact, the sale was so successful that many pieces surpassed their estimated price. According to a release from the auction house, The Roxburghe Rubies, a set containing a ruby necklace and ruby earrings dating to the late 19th century, fetched a whopping $5.77 million, five times the set's estimated price! The 2.52-carat green diamond (the largest vivid-green diamond ever to appear at auction) which was said to be the highlight of the auction fetched a final price of $3.08million! An Asian buyer paid this hefty price for this rare stone setting a new world-record price per carat for a green diamond at auction. But it is not just the rare green diamond that set a new record.

Patek Philippe Calibre 89 becomes the most expensive watch auctioned in 2009 for $5 million

The highlight of this sale was the Patek Philippe Calibre 89 timepiece from the Matsuda Collection. The exquisite yellow gold timepiece is said to be the world’s most complicated watch and had drawn many enthusiastic bidders ever since Antiquorum announced its intention to sell this exceptional timepiece. In just a few minutes of bidding, the timepiece managed to fetch a final bid of CHF 5,120,000 ($5,053,360), setting a new world record for this watch and also the most expensive watch sold in 2009 by any auction house in the world. As expected Patek Philippe continued to be the favorite brand at the auction with other timepiece from the famous watchmaker fetching extremely strong prices.
