A 1950 Dinky toy fetches $10,450

Dinky_tiny_toy.jpg Who would've thought that a tiny toy can fetch $10,450? This tiny van measures only three inches and it was made as a promotional prototype for Omnisport, a general store in El Salvador, Central America, in the 1950s. However more of the vans were never made and that made it stay as a unique piece. It features the words Omnisport Todo Para El Deporte on it and it's painted in pale blue. Wallis and Wallis Auction House in Lewes, East Sussex sold it to an anonymous bidder on Monday. The toy was estimated to get $16,320, but ultimately sold for $10,450.

A local dealer bought it around five years ago from a man who had worked in Central America in the 1950s and that attracted attention to this van. Auctioneer Glenn Butler is quoted saying that the discovery of the van has been very valuable. Dinky toys have been very popular back in the 50's. This collector's item certainly fetched a lot of money.
