Christie's London South Kensington branch is set to have a great auction on May 19th that will include fabulous selection of vintage Hermès, Louis Vuitton and Dunhill luggage. When I say this is one auction you wouldn't want to miss, I really mean it. We know timeless vintage bags are back totally back in vogue, so they will probably sell like hot cakes. "Harking back to a golden age of travel, vintage luggage encapsulates the glamor and decadence of a bygone era when journeying to a foreign land involved adventure, romance and style," says Christie's' Director of Textiles Pat Frost. "These exquisitely crafted pieces evoke a time when the journey was as important as the destination. With iconic names including Louis Vuitton, Dunhill and Hermes leading the field and remaining very collectible they not only functional but design objects in their own right." I'd like to add some glamor and class to my travels with these bags, that's for sure.
My first choice is the monogram hard-side case and cover by Louis Vuitton (above) with a beautiful patina to the the leather handle that's estimated to go for about $900-$1200. This is followed by the two cream colored canvas and leather suitcases by Hermès from the mid-20th century, monogrammed "APW" that are expected to go for around $2,200 - $3,000. If you are looking for true class, you must check out the two fine black cases by Dunhill and T. Anthony that might fetch about $1,200 - $1,500. So don't miss this timeless auction.
