• Saddam Hussein's Basra Breeze is up for $30 million

ocean-breeze_1.jpg It is hard to imagine that Saddam Hussein owned a yacht, but he did. Recently, there was a court ruling that stated that his yacht Basra Breeze (formerly Ocean Breeze) is the property of the Iraqi Government after a Cayman island firm partly owned by King Abdullah of Jordan claimed possession. The Iraqi's seem to not want it in their possession as a memory of Saddam and have put up the 269-ft. mega yacht for sale. Not for a small price either. $30 million will have to leave someone's bank account for this yacht. Word has it that the yacht is surprisingly ugly though. It was launched in 1981 and it features acres of marble and gold, Arabesque arches, dark wood carvings, "deep pile carpets in lurid colors and rugs woven with views of holy cities", and gold faucets in the bathrooms. There's also a bulletproof atrium with banquet seating for 200, two medical treatment centers and a mini operating theater, and a helipad.

Now it sounds like Saddam Hussein's yacht. All that sounds essential in any dictator's personal boat. The crew consisted of up to 35 people, but due to Hussein's paranoia, their services were hardly ever required. Saddam Hussein's yacht wouldn't be something I'd invest my money in. I can think of a million better ways to spend my imaginary millions.
