The Ponahalo Diamonds fetch $6.16 million
Statistics say that prices for top quality diamonds have been going downhill, but that seems to have had no effect on this pair of frosty precious stones. The Ponahalo diamonds, approximately 102 and 70 carats are regular cut stones. They brought in a whopping amount of $6.16 million. It is quite a high bid and it was placed anonymously over the phone. However, the winning bidder Mr Amer Radwan of Dubai later revealed his name. I mean, if you buy something so expensive, it is only natural that you want to let the world know of your conquest. The auction was in the interest of the society to a certain extent, you will be happy to know. A cut of the amount that the diamonds fetched will be donated to Russell Simmons' Diamond Empowerment Fund, benefiting educational programs in Africa.
The Ponahalo diamonds not only look gorgeous, but they have also benefitted society. This has worked out pretty well.
