The Wittelsbach is the world's most expensive diamond
We all know diamonds are expensive and hence so desirable, but how expensive would the world's most expensive diamond be? The Wittelsbach is a 35.56-carat blue diamond mined in India, which has sold for a staggering $24.3 million. It's the most expensive diamond ever sold at an auction. It has a rich history behind it. King Philip IV of Spain chose this very diamond as part of the dowry for his daughter, the Infanta Margarita Teresa. Leopold I, her partner who later became Holy Roman Emperor passed on the diamond to his heirs. This diamond later came to be known as "Der Blaue Wittelsbacher" (The Blue Wittelsbach) in 1722 when the Archduchess of Austria married Bavaria's Crown Prince.
