Lexus could be working on a super-SUV to rival the Lamborghini Urus

Automobile enthusiasts have been asking Lexus to recreate the magic of the LFA sports car, but rumors suggest that its successor might not be a two-door sports coupe after all. According Japan’s Spyder7 publication, Lexus is working on a flagship SUV that is squarely aimed at rivalling the Lamborghini Urus and the upcoming Aston Martin DBX. The base model of the high-performance SUV will be powered by a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine supplemented by two electric motors for a combined output of more than 424 horsepower. However, there might a more powerful and sportier F version on offer that will feature a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 sourced from the LC F. The V8 engine will allegedly be tuned to churn out no less than 661 hp, which is interestingly 20 horsepower more than the Lamborghini Urus.

Spyder 7 speculates that the production model could make its debut at an international auto show “in 2020”, while sales could start in 2021. That’s not all; the publication even goes further to predict that it might undercut the Lamborghini hyper SUV in terms of price. While the starting price of the Urus currently is $200,000, the Lexus flagship SUV might be launched with a price tag close to $150,000. We sincerely hope all these rumors turn out to be true and we finally get a LFA successor, even if it is an SUV.
