Versace designs a luxury cell phone for the well-heeled

It isn’t novel to see fashion houses rolling out luxury cell phones. Following the footsteps of the Prada, Dolce and Gabbana, Tag Heuer and Christian Dior, it is Versace’s turn to wow all fashion-conscious consumers with its first high-priced mobile phone. To give shape to this designer handset, Donatella Versace has joined hands with the ModeLabs Group SA, which is already known for making phones for Christian Dior SA and Tag Heuer. Though the official price tag is not revealed, this new cell phone will certainly carry a tag of more than $5,000. All set to hit the shelves in May 2010 will be unveiled in the coming week at a couture presentation at Paris’s Hotel Plaza Athénée. Obviously, since it comes from an haute couture house, you can expect to see high-end materials such as leather on the cell phone. It will also come with customizing with specific colors and materials to suit high-end consumers’ tastes.
