Diamond-studded coffee and tea mugs for a royal sip

Though it’s time to pop open a glamorous champagne bottle and raise a toast to bring in 2010, elite teetotalers too need to celebrate the festive season with opulence. A leading diamond manufacturer from India has spread out a range of extravagant crockery to cater to such clients. How about sipping hot coffee from a bejeweled coffee mug? For about $11,000, the melamine glass mug is studded with 8 carats of diamond and 3 carats of colored stones set in 25 to 50 grams of gold. And for tea lovers, there is a set of six teacups tagged at $9,600. Each cup is adorned with a replaceable glass design of 1.2 carats of diamonds set on 25 grams of gold. For kids born with a silver spoon and need to upgrade to a glass to drink milk, the makers have designed a $1,500 milk glass festooned with 2 carats of ruby and 3 carats of diamonds studded on 20 grams of gold. Exhibited at Sparkle-09, a gem and jewelry exhibition, these products are already a rage amongst well-heeled Indians.
