Welsh Cake worth $9000 topped with diamond solitaire to mark St David’s day
![]()
In the history of insanely opulent cakes, we’ve seen the cake topped with $30 million worth of jewels and the Cannoli cake finished with a diamond necklace. This time around, the humble Welsh cake has turned into a celebrity baked goodie of sorts after jewelry retailer Clive Ranger has created what could go down as the most expensive Welsh cake ever. Ranger has teamed up with local start-up business Mary Margaret Mix to create a welsh cake decorated with cubic zirconia, 18ct Welsh gold and a diamond solitaire worth £6,250 ($9,900). The lavish little Welsh cake is being baked at the chain’s store in Cardiff High Street to raise money for charity Marie Curie Cancer Care. People are invited to the store on St David’s Day to pick up a raffle ticket to be in the bid to win the dazzling prize.
The guests will then be invited back to an in store drinks reception in the evening and the winner will be declared at 5.45pm.
