Salon Champagne, part of the Laurent-Perrier group is probably the world's best and most expensive.Eugène Aimé Salon dabbed in making the bubbly as merely a hobby at first, only to share with friends. Till today, the champagne is produced in commune of Le Mesnil sur Oger, a Grand cru rated vineyard area. Sticking to traditions is pretty commendable. Being a premiere Champagne, its production is very limited, this adds to the exclusive factor. It is not released under any name but the Salon name in exceptional years. This has contributed to only 37 vintages in the past century. 60,000 is the number that the bottles are limited to in every vintage. Vintages from 1997, 1999, 2002 and 2004 are maturing right now in the Salon cellars. It adopts the blanc de blanc style of 100% Chardonnay grapes, the wine is fermented in stainless steel and then aged in the bottle. This gives us a Champagne that is absolutely elegant. The 1997 vintage is described as, "subtle ginger, floral, and citrus aromas" that "build to flavors of lemon pie, honey, and hazelnut."
Salon has not always been this expensive. It is with the release of a 1959 vintage that was auctioned off at Christie's that increased Salon's market value.
