Gloves worn by Muhammad Ali and a poster of boxing match fetch $1.1 million

The Keep Memory Alive “Power of Love Gala” honoring Muhammad Ali’s 70th birthday was one successful event. Yes, the gala event, which took place on Saturday night, succeeded in raising more than $11 million!
The nearly six-hour-long gala that cost $1,500-per-plate minimum price for a seat benefited the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in downtown Las Vegas and the Muhammad Ali Center in the boxer’s hometown of Louisville, Ky.

While the event was a starry affair with over 200 dignitaries from the sports and entertainment world making their presence, the highlight was the bidding battle for the gloves Ali wore in his 1965 heavyweight title defense against Floyd Patterson poster from that fight. The battle between Station Casinos and UFC exec Lorenzo Fertitta and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones saw Fertitta walking away with the prized pieces for a cool $1.1 million!
$1.1 million for boxing gloves and a poster; now that is indeed one hefty sum.
