MJ as a knight in shining armor fetched $175,000 at the Art Basel

It is an open secret that Michael Jackson was an avid art collector. It is no surprise that he not only collected custom created artwork but also featured in a lot of art created around and about him. But Kehinde Wiley was one of the few artists who had the privileged of being sent to create a Michael Jackson portrait according to the great entertainer’s specifications! Too bad MJ could’nt see the final artwork.The work of art titled Equestrian Portrait of King Philip II, went under the hammer at the New York gallery Deitch Projects’ booth at the Art Basel Miami Beach and fetched the Gallery a whopping $175,000.

At 11 by 10 feet, the painting measures a portrait of MJ dressed as a knight on a horse, with a romantic background complete with cherubs. Two other paintings by the artist with President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, remained unsold.
