IWC has introduced two new additions to its Pilot’s Top Gun collection for 2021. Debuting at the digital Watches & Wanders 2021 show is the Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Top Gun Edition “Mojave Desert” and the Big Pilot’s Watch Top Gun Edition “Mojave Desert”. The Mojave Desert variants feature a case made of sand-colored ceramic that is inspired by the barren and dry landscape of China Lake – the US’s navy’s training and testing facility in the Californian desert. This is the first time IWC has used the material for the Big Pilot’s Watch. In addition to the sand-colored ceramic case material, both models feature dark brown subdued dials with sand-colored luminous material and sand-colored rubber straps with textile inlays.
As the name suggests, both the watches are pretty big; the perpetual calendar reference IW503004 measures 46.5mm in diameter and 15.6mm in thickness, while the three-hand reference IW506003 measures 46mm in diameter and 14.6mm in thickness. Both models are powered by IWC-manufactured movements from the 52000 caliber family. Housed inside the IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Top Gun Edition “Mojave Desert” is the IWC 52615 movement, while the IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Top Gun Edition “Mojave Desert” is powered by the IWC 52110 movement; both get the ceramic-based Pellaton self-winding system that builds up a power reserve of seven days. Limited to 150 pieces per year, the perpetual calendar version is priced at is $35,000. On the other hand, the IWC Big Pilot’s Watch Top Gun Edition “Mojave Desert” carries a price tag of $14,800 and limited to just 250 pieces per year. Both timepieces will be available from April 7th through IWC boutiques, authorized retail partners, and on the brand’s site.
